Andrew Jawa, MDAndrew Jawa, MD

Dr. Andrew Jawa is the open shoulder specialist at Boston Sports & Shoulder Center. He specializes in primary (Anatomic and Reverse) and revision total shoulder replacement, latarjets for chronic shoulder instability, and proximal humerus fractures.

Dr. Jawa is very active in clinical research, as well as in the education of orthopaedic residents and fellows. His research focuses on optimizing outcomes following shoulder arthroplasty and cost-analysis of shoulder arthroplasty using time-driven activity-based cost accounting methodologies. As an assistant clinical professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, he trains Tufts orthopedic residents, sports fellows from the New England Baptist Hospital, and shoulder and elbow fellows from the Harvard Shoulder Fellowship Program. He has won both resident and fellow teaching awards for best instruction by an attending surgeon. Additionally, Dr. Jawa has published over 50 peer reviewed scientific papers, and presented at more than 50 national conferences. He is very active in the national orthopaedic community where he is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society (NESES), and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

Kai Mithoefer, MDKai Mithoefer, MD

Dr. Kai Mithoefer is double board-certified in Orthopaedic surgery and Orthopaedic sports medicine in the U.S. and Germany. After completing his medical school at Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf, Germany he received his residency training in the Harvard Orthopaedic Residency Program. Following residency Dr. Mithoefer completed a fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma at Harvard Medical School and the prestigious Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Dr. Mithoefer has more than 15 years of clinical expertise and is an internationally recognized specialist for sports medicine, joint preservation and regenerative orthopedics. He has extensive experience caring for athletes at all levels including as team physician of the New England Revolution, U.S. National Soccer Team, World Team Tennis, U.S. Davis Cup Team, and U.S. Open Tennis tournament, and has served as Assistant Medical Director for Major League Soccer (MLS).

Dr. Mithoefer’s clinical and scientific interests lie in the application of non-operative as well as state-of-the-art minimally invasive and regenerative surgical techniques to facilitate recovery and return to athletic and work activities following injuries of the knee and shoulder. Dr. Thomas H. Wuerz is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon at New England Baptist Hospital, specializing in Hip Arthroscopy. He has a particular focus in complex problems of the shoulder requiring shoulder replacement, sports related injuries, shoulder instability with bone loss, irreparable tendon tears, and failed previous surgery.

Dr. Kirsch also received advanced international training in shoulder surgery from world-renowned experts in Lyon, France. Dr. Weitzel is board certified and holds a subspecialty certificate in orthopaedic sports medicine. Jason D. Rand, PA-CJason D. Rand, PA-C

Jason Rand is the Physician Assistant to Dr. Brian McKeon. He attended Cornell University where he earned his degree in Physician Assistant Studies. Jason also earned a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University where he worked as a licensed Physical Therapist, rehabbing patients with sports-related injuries. His initial clinical training took place at New England Baptist Hospital in the sports medicine service.

Jason has extensive experience with steroid and visco supplementation injections, having injected over 17,000 joints, and often lectures around the country on intra-articular injections and techniques. He also has an interest in biological injections, such as platelet-rich plasma, and is a preceptor for several PA programs both locally and nationally. Jason also participates in ongoing clinical trials, including studies sanctioned by the FDA.

Kiet T. Le, PA-CKiet T. Le, PA-C

Kiet Le is the Physician Assistant to Dr. Andrew Jawa. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine at Quinnipiac University and a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Albany Medical College. Prior to joining Boston Sports & Shoulder Center, Kiet worked as an orthopaedic physician assistant at Newton-Wellesley Sports Medicine and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Kiet’s research interests include osteoarthritis and reverse shoulder arthroplasty. More specific Kiet is interested in RSA outcomes in younger patients.
