Mission

The BSSC Research Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that aims to conduct and foster research in musculoskeletal disorders, promote interdisciplinary education about orthopedic conditions, and support patients with musculoskeletal disorders.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.71 billion people have musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions worldwide. In the U.S., musculoskeletal disease affects over 50% of people 18 years or older, and over 75% of people 65 years old or older. These conditions significantly limit mobility and dexterity, leading to early retirement from work, lower levels of well-being and reduced ability to participate in society. Because of population increases and ageing, the number of people with musculoskeletal conditions is rapidly increasing. The disability associated with musculoskeletal conditions has been increasing and is projected to continue to increase in the next decades.

The BSSC Research Foundation aims to expand the scope of orthopedic knowledge through collaborative and insightful investigation. We hope to tackle issues in orthopedic surgery, as well as continue evaluating the boundaries along the cutting edge of orthopedic technology to optimize patient care.
