Kuhan Mahendraraj, BA, MSResearch Foundation Manager

Kuhan is the BSSC Research Foundation Manager. He graduated from Hamilton College as a pre-medical student with a BA in Hispanic Studies and a minor in Biology and an MS in Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University School of Medicine. He began his career at BSSC as a medical assistant in 2018, and transitioned to be the research assistant for Dr. Andrew Jawa in 2019. As a researcher, he has worked with the Taub Institute of Columbia University Medical Center performing Alzheimer’s Disease research, has 17 publications, and has presented at regional orthopedic conferences. As the BSSC RF Manager, Kuhan is responsible for streamlining research, building institutional frameworks, and designing fundraising initiatives.

Dan Swanson
Dan Swanson, BS Research Assistant

Dan Swanson is a research assistant with the BSSC RF who works closely with Dr. Jawa and Dr. Kirsch. He is a pre-medical student that graduated from Fairfield University in 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Dan coordinates research studies for Dr. Jawa and Dr. Kirsch by maintaining the data registries, facilitating data curation, drafting institutional review board proposals, and performing statistical analysis.

Paul-Anthony Hart, BAResearch Assistant

Paul-Anthony is a medical assistant/scribe/research assistant at BSSC. He works closely with Dr. Jawa as a secondary research assistant and his clinical scribe. He graduated from Hamilton College with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and is preparing to apply to physician assistant school. Paul assists Dan with prospective maintenance of Dr. Jawa and Dr. Kirsch's patient registry, data curation, and coordination with residents and fellows to further Dr. Jawa and Dr. Kirsch's clinical research.

Sophie nemec
Sophie Nemec, BS Clinical Research Coordinator

Sophie is a medical assistant and clinical research coordinator (CRC) at BSSC who works closely with Dr. McKeon and Jason Rand. She graduated from the University of Connecticut in May 2021 as an honors pre-medical student with a BS in Allied Health Sciences. Sophie is the CRC for Dr. Andrew Jawa's clinical trial about the efficacy of Zilretta use in the shoulder for end-stage arthritis. Sophie maintains Dr. Miller’s database through PatientIQ and coordinators her studies involving proximal hamstring repair.

Edward Allen, BAResearch Assistant

Edward is a research assistant and medical assistant with the BSSC RF. He graduated from Hamilton College in 2020 as a pre-medical student with a BA in Chemistry. He works closely with the Hip Preservation Team at BSSC, led by Dr. Thomas Wuerz. Edward maintains Dr. Wuerz's personal database through PatientIQ, coordinates his numerous studies, and runs Dr. Wuerz's clinics.

Matt Veale
Matt Veale, BS, MS Research Assistant

Matt is a research assistant and medical assistant with the BSSC RF. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 2019 as a pre-medical student with a BS in Biology and is currently completing his MS in Medical Sciences at Boston University School of Medicine. Matt started at BSSC in 2019 as a medical assistant, and is currently the research assistant for the foot and ankle team (Dr. Kurt Hofmann and Dr. Mark Slovenkai), as well as for Dr. Alan Curtis.

Tessa Lilley, BS Research Assistant

Tessa Lilley is a part-time research assistant for Dr. Brian McKeon focused on the NuSurface medical meniscal implant. While the implant's clinical trial was active, she was the primary clinical research coordinator. Since study closure in 2020, she now runs retrospective outcomes-based studies surrounding the impact of the implant. Tess graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, and is currently a physician assistant student at Northeastern University.
